Post by Alpha8472 »

A man was set on fire in the parking lot of the Lucky Supermarket in Concord, California at 9:45 PM. There were bottles of flammable liquid at the scene. Witnesses watched a man running around on fire. He was burned all over his body and was taken by a helicopter to a hospital.

“Someone” is the man himself per the Chronicle, there is not a person running around setting people on fire like implied. Other than happening to take place in a public setting that happened to be a parking lot that happened to have a grocery store, I hardly see the relevance of posting this. Over 10,000 people die from burn related injuries a year.

A local man that helped put out the fire claimed that it was most likely a homeless man. The homeless have taken trains and are spreading out into the once crime free middle class suburbs of the San Francisco Bay Area. They bring their own kind of crazy with them and ruin the neighborhood.

I know this shopping center, and it was a low crime area just years ago, but the homeless have invaded making a routine trip to the supermarket potentially dangerous.

The Kmart next door closed down just a couple of years ago and is now abandoned. When retail stores gets abandoned, it can become a homeless magnet. Kmart's closure has blighted this shopping center. This city has no Target or Walmart. This was a busting and busy Kmart. When Kmart closed, this shopping center became a ghost town.

Awful thing to happen in an area where you never would have had any concerns in the past.

The media coverage of this is interesting. One media source is saying the man set himself on fire, another media source says it is unknown exactly what happened, and another is saying someone set him on fire. Of course nobody will blame homeless, loitering, etc.

This parking lot at this point needs much better lighting I think, and may need to remove some large trees. Also they should start to play music out front to discourage loitering.
