(Reuters) -Cineworld Group, the world's second largest cinema chain operator, is preparing to file for bankruptcy, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, just days after warning that a lack of blockbusters would hit its liquidity in the near term.

Cineworld declined to comment on the WSJ report.

I think the lack of continuous big hit movies this summer has definitely harmed the theater business, combined with many movies going direct to streaming.

I totally agree. The Predator prequel Prey, was released on streaming only. It was a very beautifully shot movie. It deserved to be seen on the big screen. I was thinking about seeing some movies, but they suddenly appeared on Disney Plus just months later.

Theaters need to attract customers back. They should throw out some freebies or exclusive perks.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Movie is being re-released in IMAX theaters on August 26. They should totally re-release some of the original Star Wars movies on the big screen. It would really bring back the customers.
