Charley's Philly Steaks Eliminates Deli Sandwiches

Post by Alpha8472 »

The company says that stores that eliminated deli sandwiches saw a 5% increase in sales. Menu simplification can increase sales in times of labor shortages. Chicken wings and ice cream will remain.

The company is also adding a kids menu with chicken wings, ice cream cones, and oreo cookies.

I am surprised that the company's core item is a cheesesteak with Cheez Wiz.

Maybe since that is the "original" version that is made in Philadelphia?

Not that you can't get many other types there as well, but that is the standard one if people don't request anything different.

Why wouldn't it be? That's a traditional cheesesteak!

I had no idea so many people prefer Cheez Wiz to real cheese.

I know the two "big" places in Philadelphia (Geno's and Pat's King of Steaks, located across the street from each other) were split at one point on Wiz versus Provolone (I think Geno's was the one with Provolone, Pats with the Wiz) but at this point it looks like both of them will sell you a cheesesteak with either type of cheese (or American cheese if you want.) There's a place in Seattle (Tat's Deli) that I used to go to for cheesesteaks when I worked in Seattle, that offered the multiple cheese types as well. I tend to prefer the White American myself.
