Indianapolis' First Mall To Evict Stores For 3 Months

Post by Alpha8472 »

The 3 anchors (Burlington, Sears, L.S. Ayres) all closed over the years. Now they will evict all stores for 3 months to install murals and video screens. The stores will have professional designers to redo their stores.

One anchor will be turned into a hotel.

The mall will be renamed from Lafayette Square Mall to Window To The World.

The developer seems interesting. He started out collecting residential rental properties and then redid strip malls in the area. The location sounds good on paper (relatively short distances to downtown, airport, etc.) but this general area has been struggling for a long time---the cheapest of GI bill houses from the 50s in various states of condition. The one thing the site has going for it is that it's basically one big parking lot which isolates it from anything else which might help with security fears. The developer's very personal approach to leasing probably works better on a small scale than a big one. He also has a fairly mysterious background.
