The mattress brand has bought approximately 3,000 retail stores.

Does this mean they will only sell brands owned by Tempur Sealy?

The mattress business isn't what it appears to be on the surface. Many mattress brands are all made in the same local contract manufacturing facilities then a label is slapped on them. There are a couple of major conglomerates like Tempur Sealy that own dozens of brands. There really isn't as much competition in the category as it would first appear.

Don’t forget Mattress Firm bough a bunch of regional mattress chains several years ago. An they have competition from furniture chains like Living Spaces, Mor, and American Furniture Warehouse.

Wasn't Mattress Firm in bankruptcy sometime in the past few years?

Just an alternate url / story reporting on the matter.

I believe Mattress Firm was owned by a Spain-based company that did go through some sort of bankruptcy proceeding, a year or two after buying up the western U.S. Sleep Country USA stores that seemed to be everywhere from the Bay Area to Bellingham, Wash.
