Kroger Marketplace 2.0
https://www.supermarketnews.com/retail- ... lace-store
Interestingly being touted as the "first" Kroger Marketplace, despite the concept having existed since 2004 (and earlier at Smitty's and Fry's), this is a previously-announced store in Plano, Texas. What is interesting about this version of Kroger Marketplace is that it now features a wide assortment of general merchandise, on par with Walmart, Target, and subsidiary Fred Meyer. Two additional Kroger Marketplaces have been announced in nearby Fort Worth and Melissa.

Re: Kroger Marketplace 2.0
It sounds like... Fred Meyer. They've also got a "new" Smiths Marketplace in east Las Vegas that is pretty much a Fred Meyer with reduced apparel and no electronics. I don't see or hear anything new here.pseudo3d wrote: ↑September 25th, 2023, 8:05 pmIt looks like the first Kroger Marketplace...in Plano.BatteryMill wrote: ↑September 25th, 2023, 4:17 pm https://www.supermarketnews.com/retail- ... lace-store

Re: Kroger Marketplace 2.0
Smitty’s in Phoenix was more similar to Fred Meyer in selection-a full line department store combined with a supermarket and a restaurant. The current Fry’s Marketplace is a pale comparison.

Re: Kroger Marketplace 2.0
I don't understand what is new about this. Kroger has had the Marketplace format in the Dallas Market for 10+ years. There is nothing different about this store than any other Marketplace store. For instance over 10 years ago now I went into a Kroger Marketplace in Mansfield, TX. That may have been the first one in the DFW area or one of the first ones.

Typical lousy Journalism AND typical shill job by Supermarket News (noticed the over promotion stuff for Hy Vee?).

Didn't the Smitty's get rebranded as Fred Meyer for a short time before Kroger decided to keep the FM name in the Northwest and rebrand those stores as Fry's?jamcool wrote: ↑September 25th, 2023, 11:26 pm Smitty’s in Phoenix was more similar to Fred Meyer in selection-a full line department store combined with a supermarket and a restaurant. Re: Kroger Marketplace 2.0
Our very own @jamcool posted a very detailed summary of Smitty's and Fred Meyer in The Valley on Groceteria way back in 2006. The short story is, no the Fred Meyer name never appeared in Phoenix despite a potential rebrand and partial construction of a new Fred Meyer. The Fred Meyer never opened.bryceleinan wrote: ↑September 26th, 2023, 10:33 amDidn't the Smitty's get rebranded as Fred Meyer for a short time before Kroger decided to keep the FM name in the Northwest and rebrand those stores as Fry's?jamcool wrote: ↑September 25th, 2023, 11:26 pm Smitty’s in Phoenix was more similar to Fred Meyer in selection-a full line department store combined with a supermarket and a restaurant. Re: Kroger Marketplace 2.0
This is a PR Hack mill. No story here. They just copy and paste whatever is emailed to them. I'm sure if Kroger issued a press release that they've changed the toilet paper in their guest restrooms they'd run a story too. Move on. Wasn't there a similar story a few years ago about the La Jolla Pavilions conversion that supposedly interviewed a Vons executive that was long deceased? (And yet the remodel and conversion actually happened anyway)
