Vancouver Allows Grocery Stores To Sell Wine

Post by Alpha8472 »

I am kind of shocked. Some people are saying it will lead to more alcoholism. So selling wine only at liquor stores is supposed to reduce alcoholism?

Are there still that many places where wine sales are restricted like this?

Utah still has state liquor stores selling wine and spirits , although you can now buy regular beer at retail stores (It used to be only 3.2 beer was available at private retailers)

Those famous useless Blue Laws (Re: beer, wine, liquor, etc.) are still around in many areas in th USA (in one form or another).

North Carolina still has a state monopoly on liquor sales, although beer and wine are sold in grocery stores and convenience stores. Washington has only allowed liquor sales in grocery stores since 2012 after it was passed by ballot initiative, but taxes it pretty heavily and allows it only in stores of 10,000 square feet or larger (with grandfathered exceptions for former state-run liquor store locations transferred to private ownership, although most of those failed pretty quickly after the transition.)
