A new law set to take effect in July 2024 could ban service fees at California restaurants. Restaurants all over are adding fees such as employee health care fees, carbon offset fees, large group fees, ingredient cost fees, etc.

Uber Eats, Doordash, and other delivery services can still charge service fees.

Yes. This is getting ridiculous. I recently encountered an independent Hawaiian BBQ place with a 99 cent fee added to every transaction period. It didn't matter how you paid. $9 mini plate or $14 full plate or 10 of the $14 full plates, 99 cent fee total for the transaction.

Then expect prices to go up on food items. You will pay for inflation one way or the other.

Heaven forbid the companies cut their profit margin percentage OR drive a Buick instead of an Audi!

It isn't the large chains doing this (in most cases). It is independent restaurants.

I haven't noticed these fees at major chains? Some secondary ones like Claim Jumper in CA... but not seeing it at the Chilis or Dennys or Outback or Darden chains or any of the like. Except the auto grat for parties of 6+ 8+ whatever but that has been standard for decades.
