WinCo and Albertsons Cos lose class action in Oregon

Post by SamSpade »

Shoppers that visited either store in Portland, Ore. after the "Clean Energy Fund" Tax went into effect, were charged an additional fee, but it was ruled that it was not disclosed in a lawful manner. Both reached settlements in mediation.

I am seeing a lot of questionable disclosure of TBID and similar add ons to sales tax in certain tourist areas in recent years. Safeway is really sloppy about this. No break out of what is usual sales tax and what is the supplement from the TBID. Some other chains break the two out but have odd descriptions on the receipts that nobody even would understand.

These grocers handled this like a sales tax in OR. But that isn't quite what it is. I can see why they did it this way, it was easier the way they did it, but now they will have to modify their pricing on the items to show this.
