K Wash
I think this article may be a joke. I don't have time to look into it though. http://www.press-citizen.com/apps/pbcs. ... 0100512008
Hilarious in any case.

Ah, yet another in a seemingly endless line of test-market concepts Kmart will do nothing with...

Re: K Wash
It might not be the worst idea as they can promote the quality of their Kenmoore washing machines.

Re: K Wash
When I read the Subject line I thought that Kmart was opening up car washes. However, gas stations with car washes could actually bring in some business. Safeway is building new gas stations at their future stores in Pleasant Hill and Campbell, CA. It seems that Safeway loves the idea of gas stations. Walmart, Sam's Club, Raley's and Costco realize that people are drawn to gas stations where they can get gas for a few cents cheaper. Gas stations bring in customers. Raley's also has car washes.
Perhaps Kmart will bring back their gun departments or open up gun shops. Yes, my cousin worked at the gun department at Kmart years ago. I was certainly surprised that she was such an expert in guns.

Re: K Wash
Yes Super S, they are serious. I thought it was a joke too.
Their gas station name is K Express. There is still one, somewhere... most were with stores closed during the bankruptcy.

Re: K Wash
A laundromat would have had more relevance in the 1950s or 1960s. But, in 2010, much of the U.S.A. has homes that have their own washers and dryers. I could only see this working if the store was located in an area that had a high concentration of older apartment buildings, or if in an area where a lot of out-of-town travelers pass through, or near a national park or other campground. I could maybe see this in a Kmart in an area such as Jackson, Wyoming which is not far from both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.
In any case, this is a concept that is going to have a very limited appeal.
