It seems like Winn-Dixie is not doing well. Most of the stores to be closed are in Florida. Publix gained a huge share of the market in Florida when they purchased most of the Albertsons, LLC stores in Florida. Winn-Dixie probably figured out that they couldn't compete against Publix in most areas of Florida.

Re: Winn-Dixie Closing 30 Stores by September
From what most of the discussions have been, most of the closing stores were marginal stores, or at the far reaches of the distribution areas of the company. A case in point were the two stores in Meridian, MS. One was a Marketplace, the other a Save Rite. Both ar at the far reach of the Hammond, LA DC. The Save Rite store was a former Sack N Save from Jitney Jungle that WD acquired in 2000. Most of the WD stores I go into are fairly busy these days, since the company has expanded FuelPerks into Louisiana.
