Fast Food and Labor Shortages
Re: Fast Food and Labor Shortages
They need to change the extra federal unemployment benefit so that it starts decreasing on a weekly basis. This would encourage people to start looking now. There are 9 million jobs to be filled right now but a lot of them pay less than the current enhanced unemployment benefits.

Wages will have to go up and these businesses that screw around scheduling people 20 hours a week and paying under $10/hr are going to need to re-assess their scheduling practices if they want to have labor. I am seeing around Reno now various fast food advertising wages on their hiring signs- $12-$16/hr is what I am seeing. These places before all this were paying $9-$10/hr. A number of Subways have just closed outright the past couple months; they were probably trying to pay minimum wage.klkla wrote: ↑May 9th, 2021, 8:14 pm They need to change the extra federal unemployment benefit so that it starts decreasing on a weekly basis. The enhanced unemployment is going to be here for at least a few more months. Plus you also have the potentially ongoing child credit if that gets passed on a go forward basis. This child credit is going to make some families take a hard look at if one of the parents should work or not; saving the cost of daycare and then receiving the child credit from the government, some families may come out better just cutting one of the jobs, cutting the daycare expense, and using the ongoing credit from the government to help with some expenses.

Why would that credit make a difference? They were already able to get it, just now they are giving it out monthly over the year instead of all when taxes are filed.storewanderer wrote: ↑May 9th, 2021, 8:54 pm The enhanced unemployment is going to be here for at least a few more months.
