Re: Nordstrom Closing Downtown Anchorage Location

Nordstrom even seems to be losing ground in eBar sales. I have not seen two long time employees at downtown Portland and the new staff can't even make a solid latte. They did mark up pastries a bit and pull a "Starbucks"-ization of the menu (only the grande size price and a smattering of item...

Re: Kroger and Employee Uniforms

It may help employees be cleaner. As someone that knew someone that worked at Kroger and had *one* work polo, it got pretty unpleasant after a few days wear. It seems to be a reflection of many companies "relaxing" retail dress code. As mentioned here, one can see it at Target, Starbucks allows tatt...

Re: McDonald's franchisees want a better chicken sandwich

I'm confused. In the northwest (anyway) they have a tasty "premium" chicken filet sandwich. It's different from Chick fil A but still quite delicious. It does cost about the same. The grilled version is nice and paired with the recent "Canadian" influence, especially tasty. The fried version is OK, ...

Oregon and SW Washington UFCW Union May Strike

The "big 3" of the region are now the big 2 for the past several years. Kroger (dba Fred Meyer, QFC) Albertsons Companies (dba Albertsons, Safeway) Other union stores that must accept what is negotiated: Bales Marketplaces Oregon Thriftway locations Rosauers (Hood River) Portland area grocery store ...

Re: Subway Closures Explained

I went back after they were (testing?) adding regional ingredients. They briefly had a Tillamook cheddar available (for extra charge / specialty sandwich only) as well as (honestly more importantly) a new pickle variety. Not only were the workers at my local location really friendly, the new pickles...

Re: Portland's "scary" Safeway being updated

Update: store at SW Allen Blvd and Murray Blvd in Beaverton is also being updated (hopefully new ceiling tiles... This store is like Lloyd District was with former can lights covered by everyday cardboard). The Lifestyle aisle markers are up but department signs gone. Starbucks here will likely be r...

Albertsons growing in Treasure Valley

Meridian is now Idaho's second largest city, and the state's hometown grocer is catching up on growth. Apparently Albertsons has been sitting on Eagle & Amity Rd. for some time. After previous local resident pushback and stalled growth, new plans are filed and moving to Meridian City Council for a h...

Portland's "scary" Safeway being updated

Despite all the challenges, similar to the post about Seattle, Safeway Portland division is investing in downtown Portland, renovations the "10th and Jeff" Safeway into colorful Lifestyle variation. Like Cedar Mill, slight adjustment to the concept with a lot of corrugated metal - on aisle signs, be...

Walmart and improving access for EBT customers

If you were a senior or had certain disabilities, I could see finding the extra $7-10 dollars in your budget to be worth it.

A tale of two malls: Pocatello and Idaho Falls, Idaho

Interesting dissection / history lesson about two malls in the eastern Idaho communities, although it would have been interesting to hear a bit more on the history of Pine Ridge (located in Pocatello suburb Chubbuck) and the fact that both centers also killed two older 1960s build interior malls in ...
