Re: Costco adding self-checkouts again

The Winco in Brentwood, California has no self checkouts. They had some a few years ago, but for some reason they were removed. Brentwood is right next to the crime ridden city of Antioch. I am sure some of the awful people from Antioch probably were neglecting to ring up all of their items at the ...

Re: Retail design trends

Target attempted polished concrete floors during last year's remodel of the Target store in Walnut Creek, California. The floor is a flexible suspended floor over the parking garage below the store. You can feel the floor bounce when heavy cars drive through the garage below. The floor had so many ...

Re: Costco adding self-checkouts again

They added the last week to the wilsonville, Oregon store, which is a lower volume store. Originally they only had the. At the top 150 stores but my guess now is that they have deemed the program a success and are expanding it. Also keep in mind that the very last register was always reserved for s...

Re: Rite Aid Buys Bartell Drugs

Bartells has been approached for buyout many times over the years and the family never wanted to sell out. They must have had a significant decrease in sales and or profitability.

Re: Good Food Holdings (New Seasons, Met Mkt, Brisol Farms): New Management

New Seasons got cocky and lost focus of what made them successful. The Sunnyvale store they opened was a massive money loser. The Seattle stores failed as well. The unions targeted them. They had little competition in Portland and had grass roots support. When they entered Seattle, they just assumed...

An interesting observation. Chase is replacing all their Fred Meyer locations with freestanding locations. They are refocusing on private banking and that's hard to do in a grocery store. Not sure if this is only in the Portland market. Curious to see what goes in these vacant Chase spaces. I'm gues...

Re: New WinCo Foods locations out of Shopko Bankruptcy

*New store: Centralia, Wash. (Centralia Station, wasn't this originally Fred Meyer?) Yes.... sure would have liked to see a new Fred Meyer. At least the folks in Centralia will get a new store. Maybe. Delays in permitting etc. is what led to Fred Meyer backing out. Hopefully they don't make this mi...

Re: Lowe's to build new distribution center in Winlock, WA

This warehouse could likely be an ecommerce fulfillment center or a place to process imports vomit.from China. Home Depot and Lowes generally don't run traditional distribution centers. They use cross dock facilities and at 1.2 million sq. ft, this place is way too big for that. Lowes first store in...

Re: Fred Meyer "Spokane Test" - eliminate dedicated electronics, reduce GM, expand liquor/food, require card for sale pr

Well the reality at Fred Meyer is that many of the sale items require you to add the digital coupon to your account to get the sale price. So in essence, they have been requiring a card/phone app for some time to get many of the sale prices. They have required the app for digital coupons, but nothi...
