Honestly, I think it is the first renovations in the division since buying Safeway.

Certainly Shaw's hasn't had any renovations to speak of. Quite honestly, the current regime makes one pine for Supervalu. Yes, things are that bad.

Supervalu put money into renovations, which Albertsons has not, at least in Shaw's Northern Division. Of course the Supervalu regime had its own issues, which they inherited from Albertsons V.1.

Sounds like NorCal Division. No remodels. New stores and acquisitions being done in stale and cheapened versions of the Safeway Lifestyle interior. But I know NorCal is very successful and very profitable. I think they are just milking NorCal. In the case of Shaws I really wonder if performance simply does not warrant capital...

I happened to be in Boston this past weekend and made a quick stop in the Allston store...(mainly stopped in while looking for beer, apparently no place sells take-out beer after 11 PM in this city?). Anyway, it was a very well done remodel and seems to be using a decor package similar to the latest Safeway remodels, and was quite busy for it being a Friday near Midnight. I'm not sure why Albertson's can't get all of their stores to this level.

That's certainly a possibility, and chronic understaffing and out-of-stocks aren't helping matters, either.
