Target will be opening 100 to 150 Target stores in Canada in 2013 and 2014. Target bought the leases to many Zellers stores in Canada and will be transforming many of the Zellers stores into Target stores.
Zellers is a discount store chain Canada. From comments that I have read from Canadians, they seem very receptive to Target. Canadians have stated that Zellers stores are dirty and have bad service. The only reason many people shop at Zellers is because they are not Walmart. Target has a fresh image and their stores are generally better maintained than Zellers.
Originally, some existing Zellers stores in Canada were formerly Kmart stores. The Canadian Kmart division was bought by a Canadian company years ago.
