Fry's slowed down their store building activity but it appears that 2 new stores will open this year, 1 in Buckeye (a regular food and drug store) and 1 in Phoenix (a Marketplace).

The second Buckeye store is also a Marketplace (it is at the west entrance to the community of Verrado) per signage.

How much damage do you think will it do to the tiny Bashas in Verrado?
I'm surprised Albertsons hasn't bought a landsite in that area.

Re: Fry's to open 2 new Phoenix area stores
Safeway has a newish- well probably 10 year old- store sort of east of Buckeye in far south Goodyear that went in a while back and has limited competition. I am surprised they did not press closer to Buckeye but I suspect the store mentioned above had some really bad years when it initially opened. It probably does pretty well now. I think this Safeway was built by Bashas but then they got rid of it during the bankruptcy. Maybe it never opened by Bashas and Safeway opened it.retailfanmitchell019 wrote: ↑April 12th, 2021, 12:28 pmHow much damage do you think will it do to the tiny Bashas in Verrado?

I think this all falls down in general to Fry's developing stores in various areas. Some areas that may have started off as lower middle class like Buckeye (areas that Safeway was too good to build stores in) but had a lot of houses being built, but Fry's took a chance a decade ago and put a Marketplace Store out there. This has worked out very, very well for Fry's around Phoenix as the area grows. Now the area has changed to a degree with the newer development and is still solidly middle class but certainly skews better than it did 15 years ago, and Fry's has solidified its position there and is adding another store.
