45 stores is really not enough to make a difference in SoCal

I wonder how this will impact the image of Trader Joes.

I think they will do very well in Central California. Bakersfield on up. They will probably have the biggest impact on people like Save Mart, Stater (for center store at least), F4L, Wal Mart, and WinCo. I'd say Haggen but I think Haggen has pretty well killed center store business in its stores already so they don't have much left to lose. Not as sure in parts of Southern California just how Aldi will do where there are already so many choices... how has Grocery Outlet done in SoCal?

I wonder how the "rent a cart for a quarter" will work here. They used to do that at some Kmarts and Big Lots stores in California, but it was so unpopular that they ditched the practice.
